Short Description

Amen takes a satirical yet painfully honest look at “cancer ghosting”, the phenomenon in which those closest to a cancer patient withdraw, unable or unwilling to confront the reality of illness. With sharp irony and an infectious groove, the song exposes the contradictions often found in our social fabric, where people express sympathy but shy away from concrete solidarity and action.

Artist Reflections

This song is about those who offer prayers instead of presence, who say they care but don’t want to see the pain up close. It’s a harsh reality that many facing illness experience. ‘Amen’ is my way of confronting that hypocrisy: with a groove and a smirk.

But beyond the irony (and the anger), it’s also an exploration of human nature. Illness is difficult, and not everyone knows how to navigate it. Too often, people don’t just withdraw, they also begin to see the person only as ‘sick,’ rather than as the individual they were before diagnosis. That stigma can be just as isolating.

We don’t talk about cancer and illness openly enough, which leads to a social awkwardness when people don’t know how to behave. That’s why it’s so important to have these conversations. Through my music, I’m trying to open the door to that dialogue, encouraging people to reflect and break down the walls of discomfort around such topics. Just as illness affects not only the patient but their entire social circle, our words and actions leave lasting imprints, sometimes as painful as the disease itself.
